Keith A. Aleo has been a percussionist with the Florida Philharmonic since 1989 and has served on the faculty at the University of Miami and Florida International University. He spends his summers on the faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan.
Mr. Aleo has been a soloist with the Florida Philharmonic, the Miami Chamber Symphony, the
Subtropics Music Festival and Ensemble 21, as well as numerous solo recitals. He was one of the founding members of the New Percussion Quartet, which premiered his collaborative multimedia work JC/MC/JJ Dancers on a Plane in 1992, with visual artist Claire Satin. He has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, the Cloyd Duff Master Classes and the Grand Teton Music Seminar. He has given master classes and workshops on percussion instruments throughout the U.S.
Mr. Aleo has presented percussion clinics at various state percussion events as well as the Percussive Arts Society's International Convention (PASIC).
Keith Aleo's publications' Advanced Snare Drum Etudes and Performance Studies For Two have received critical acclaim.
At the 1994 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Aleo was honored with the Outstanding Chapter President Award for his work as President of the Florida Chapter, a position he held for five years. Mr. Aleo is contributing editor for the Encyclopedia of Percussion Instruments, released by Garland Publishing, Inc. Mr. Aleo has recorded for the Harmonia Mundi, Spectrum, Word and CRI labels as a soloist and orchestral percussionist.
Mr. Aleo received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and a Master
of Music degree from the University of Miami.
His latest publication is entitled Performance Studies For Two
(co-authored by Adams, Elster & LeVan); a collection of challenging, contemporary duets for snare drum - in some duets, players add woodblocks, cowbells and/or tom
toms. Refreshing material that explores polyrhythms, interlocking textures and "grooves", as well as some of the varied
"tonal" possibilities of the snare drum. Suitable for study, contest or recital. high school/college.
