Important Considerations:

  • STEADY* Tempo - generally around sixteenth-note=144.
  • The beginning note sets the dynamic.
  • Mallets - the best choice here is a medium-light staccato mallet.
  • Stroke - staccato strokes overall should be "light" - the
    sixteenth notes can come out slightly louder than the other notes.
  • Phrasing - last beat of 1st and 3rd measures should be
    long-short-long (see example below).

*Try playing a "ghost rhythm" during the second and fourth measures. This will guarantee perfect time keeping.
